The “Sunny Terrace of Vipiteno” Rosskopf presents itself in winter as a family-friendly ski area with a spectacular panorama over the Wipptal valley and the Eisacktal valley to the Dolomites. The valley station is only 5 minutes from the center of Vipiteno. In winter, the small but fine ski area offers 20 well-groomed and sunny slopes.

For those less inclined towards alpine skiing, Rosskopf is also a paradise. A snowshoe hike to Flaner Jöchl, for example, takes the whole family through deep snowy forests and rewards with fascinating views. Cozy ski huts and mountain inns invite you to linger with Tyrolean specialties and Mediterranean delights.

Tobogganing is a real highlight in Vipiteno-Racines. At Rosskopf, you will find the longest, snow-covered, and illuminated toboggan run in Italy with a length of 10 km. Twice a week, there is night tobogganing fun! From mid-December to March the cable cars take you to 1,860 m above sea level. The toboggan runs Pfitsch/Grube, Prantneralm, and Egg also await you for a sleigh ride.

Nearly 100 km of well-groomed cross-country ski trails of all difficulty levels are waiting to be explored. For example, those in the Pfitschtal amid a fantastic landscape at an altitude of 1,500 m. Whether you enjoy these or another scenic backdrop in the classic diagonal step or want to exert yourself in the skating technique, all trails can be reached from Vipiteno within a radius of about 5 km.

Even if the sun doesn’t play along as desired, ice skating is always a lot of fun. Those who feel like gliding on blades or spinning pirouettes have a choice of the Weihenstephan Arena in the Ice Sports Hall in Vipiteno (home of the Wipptal Broncos), the ice rinks in Stilfes and Mauls in Freienfeld, as well as those in St. Jakob in Pfitsch and Wiesen. First steps on ice are possible on the 20 x 20 m ice rink in the town square in the pedestrian zone.

Sweeter the bells never sound… than in Sterzing. When the Twelve Tower lets its 25 bells ring and the Christmas market entices with its delightful scents and flavors: That’s when the contemplative time in Sterzing and its surroundings begins. Whether you want to clear your mind or embark on a sightseeing tour, the numerous trails and panoramic views of Sterzing and its surroundings are perfect for biking. The location at the foot of Reifenstein Castle is idyllic, and the conditions for beginners and advanced players between May and October are excellent. Even golfers with a handicap will find an ideal training facility on the driving range – also for large groups – with a length of 250 m. Professional golf instructors are available.

In the summer, Rosskopf transforms into a leisure mountain with all sorts of attractions: such as the RossyPark. In addition to this petting zoo with mountain animals, the Sterzing local mountain offers llama trekking, a panoramic platform, hiking paths and much more. Even the ascent to the world of animals and plants in the Mountain Adventure World Racines with the cable car is an experience. Roaring mountain water, whistling marmots, and informative boards about fauna and flora accompany the 45-minute walk on the stroller-friendly path. Add water games, a petting zoo, and child-friendly mountain huts for a strengthening meal.

Thermals and slopes make hearts race in paragliding, provided you have good footwear and clothing adapted to the temperature. The Rosskopf, reachable year-round by cable car from the city, offers “big cinema.” In the Ridnauntal, nothing stands in the way of the flying experience from Elleswiesen or Gewingesalm. Tandem flights are available in Ridnaun and at Rosskopf.

Explore your own limits and overcome fears. “Climbing” through treetops, balancing on wobbly bridges, and overcoming nets and ropes – little and big adventurers experience the thrill. In the Skytrek high ropes course in Nordpark – just two minutes from the historic city center – from April to October. Public transportation takes you directly to the bus station in front of the entrance to the high ropes course.

Exactly 1,303 m of fun and adrenaline are on the agenda with the Panorama Mountain Coaster. It starts with the summer toboggan run at Rosskopf at the mountain station of the Panorama lift at 2,120 m above sea level. During the ride over about 300 vertical meters, with an average slope of 21% and a maximum speed of 40 km/h, besides the grand view of the mountains of Vipiteno and surroundings, there is a lot of fun for young and old.

Sitting in three-wheeled vehicles with robust rims, disc brakes, and a dual-circuit brake system, you can experience full action and a sense of freedom over 6.5 km of forest road from Ladurner Alm down the northern slope. You’ll enjoy 20 to 30 minutes of high-speed fun without a motor, noise, or exhaust fumes, with 1 underpass, 2 galleries, and 12 curves. Cart rental: mountain station of the Ladurns cable car.

Water rats pay attention! Gliding down the Eisack with its river loops in a raft: an exciting natural experience, intense team experience, and thrilling action from spring to autumn. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you have to skip your tennis match – quite the opposite! Near our hotel, there are two first-class tennis courts with a floodlight system, open daily from 9:00 – 12:00 and from 15:00 – 22:00 for game, set, and match. Summer and early autumn bring mushrooms to the forests around Vipiteno. For picking a maximum of 1 kg per day and person (over 14 years) – only on even days between 7 am and 7 pm – a permit is required in Vipiteno, Racines, and Freienfeld. Printed or on the smartphone, it must be presented along with an ID during checks by the forestry guard.
